General information
MALOUINE is the first of six Prior 37s designed by Alan Buchanan and built at Priors of Burnham.
She has been owned by her current owners since 2000, who have traveled with her on the Channel Coast, the west coast of Scotland, the Shetland Islands, Norway and in the Baltic Sea. For the past eight years she has been in the care of Veneveistämö Janne Pettersson Oy, Helsinki’s leading wooden boat specialist.
After Brexit, MALOUINE is registered for tax purposes as a European boat, so no tax is due when sold to the EU – all documents are available, as is an extensive archive of history including design and construction plans. The owner himself has known the boat since 1968.
MALOUINE was built in 1962 as a cruising yacht for Sir Harry Broadhurst when he retired from offshore racing. She is constructed entirely of teak on Canadian rock elm frames with bronze/copper fittings and lead keel.
The deck is teak on plywood over pine deck beams with an epoxy coated superstructure. She is top-rigged, absolutely seaworthy, easy to handle and has proven herself on extensive trips, among other things – Atlantic and Iceland proven.
Maintenance at the shipyard included annual painting and coating work. Other essential work carried out:
- 2003 – new teak deck
- 2010 – re-rigged
- 2012 – rewired
- 2013 – new fuel tank
- 2015 – Keel bolts checked (1 replaced) and keel/hull connection resealed, bilge cleaned and repainted
- 2019 – new upholstery
- 2022 – Engine overhaul (Volvo 2003)
- 2023 – new toilet.
