DAS MUNCH-MUSEUM IN OSLO MIT EINER SKULPTUR VON TRACY EMIN // THE MUNCH MUSEUM IN OSLO WITH A SCULPTURE BY TRACY EMIN »Marian Heyerdahl (daughter of the famous explorer Thor Heyerdahl, ›Kon-Tiki‹) examines the cultural identity, tradition and history as well as the civilian population’s role in war with her Chinese terracotta women while she continues her father’s rigorous work in her own way,« writes her gallerist Heike Arndt (Denmark and Berlin). The sculptures of Marian Heyerdahl are influenced by her travels around the world and it can be said that her artistic research has come full circle with special emphasis from the African, South American and Asian continents back to her home in Italy. Her work reflects an artist’s concern with the elements: air, earth, fire and water. The formal aesthetic properties in her work speak of simplicity of form, of low technology rather than high, offering an antithesis to a hyper post-modern environment. Her conceptual work is based on organic, sensual, and archaic forms, utilizing different materials as glass, cement, clay, sand and eggshell to emphasize the visual perception and symbolism. In addition to her sculptures and installations she has been working on monumental and site-specific projects. The Terracotta Woman Project is a unique project linking the cultural heritage of China to the contemporary art scene. In this she makes a statement confirming the continuous evil of the human race. The conceptual approach stresses simultaneously a reflection around the suffering of women and children in war. Her exhibition projects have been presented in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, the USA, China, Korea, the Gambia, Mali, Togo. Her studios are located in Oslo, Norway and Colla Micheri, Italy, and in Beijing, China. 129
