The “Alpha Tauri” is the quintessential launching ship at the FSC, now it’s up for sale. Photo: segel-bilder.de
Start and finish boats have a clear function, but the “Alpha Tauri” of Flensburg SC is a symbol. Rarely do regatta function boats dominate the action on the course. But the smart ketch on the Flensburg Fjord has managed to become directly associated with the events of the FSC. Now the yacht is for sale.
Photo series of FSC regattas can have no value if the club’s starting ship is not seen several times. Built in 1966 in Eyemouth/Scotland, the silhouette of the ketch is hardly inferior even to the classic yachts in the regattas for the Robbe&Berking Cup.
Tens of thousands of regatta sailors around the world know the “Alpha Tauri”. For decades, she served the Flensburg Sailing Club as a regatta starter ship – both in the regattas for the state youngsters’ championships and the ORC World Championship. With her classic deck and distinctive superstructure, the motor sailer was visible from afar and signalled to the competitors when it was time to set sail for the race.
On offer below deck is a large galley in the saloon, two wet rooms with toilet and of course the deckhouse with a magnificent view in a cosy seating area. The deck is covered with teak. And with its powerful marine diesel and bow thruster, the “Alpha Tauri” is a perfect boat for holiday cruising as well.
